伝統的に仏教絵画の題材として扱われる「涅槃図」をモチーフに現代版の解釈を加え「涅槃図2023」と題し制作した作品です。 画面中央に横たわる年老いた私の自画像を囲むように、現代に生きる人間や、動物、妖怪など様々なキャラクターたちを描いています。そこには人種、さらには人間か動物であるかということさえも超えた世界が展開されており、それぞれのキャラクターたちが自由に交流しています。 いわばこの世の森羅万象を描くことといっても過言ではない涅槃図。彼らが生きる世界は生と死の狭間に存在する世界なのかもしれません。しかしながら決して非現実な光景だとは思っていません。なぜなら絵に描くという事は、そこで起きている事が描かれた途端にそれは現実となり僕らの生きる世界「2023」と接続するからです。 私は彼らを描く事で争いや対立を超えた共生の輪が僕らの生きる世界に広がっていき、世界平和が実現できると信じています。
This work, Nirvana 2023, is a contemporary interpretation of the motif of Nirvana, which is traditionally used as a subject of Buddhist paintings. Various characters, including people, animals, and yokai monsters living in the modern world, surround my self-portrait of an old person lying in the center. This is a world that transcends race and even the boundary between humans and animals. These characters interact freely with one another. It is no exaggeration to say that Nirvana paintings depict all nature. The world in which these characters live may be a world that exists between life and death. However, I do not believe that this is an unrealistic scene. This is because, as soon as events are depicted in paintings, they become a reality that is connected to 2023, the world in which we live. I believe that, by depicting them, the circle of symbiosis that transcends conflict and confrontation will spread throughout the world in which we live. World peace will be realized in this manner.

私は現代社会に生きる人々や目に見えない存在達を作品に描いています。作中に現れる人物達は決して架空のキャラクターではありません。彼ら一人一人について思いを馳せ、彼らの人生を描きます。そして彼らの生きる世界は、今僕たちが暮らしている社会と地続きに存在するものだと考えています。私は「和（peace）」を想像する力は作品を超え、いつしか争いや対立のない世界へとつながると常にイメージし続けています。
I depict people and invisible beings living in contemporary society. The individuals who appear in my works are not fictitious characters. I think about each and every one of them deeply as I depict their lives. I believe that the world in which they live is connected to the society in which we live today. I believe that the power of imagining peace will transcend the artwork and eventually lead to a world without conflict and confrontation.
