「The Chanting of Deaf Water（音のない水たちのささやき）」は、80年近く前に虎杖浜地域の道路へと姿を変え、かつて私たちを包んでいた水流の記憶を僅かに残すアヨロ川の聴こえない音を辿ります。 このプロジェクトでは、アーティストが風景の記憶という文脈で音に取り組み、音が聴こえないというメタファーを使って物理的・視覚的に音を捉えます。同時に、アーティストは、喉歌という歌唱法によって、人体構造を通じて音が生成される私たち自身の身体の中にある感覚器官に注意を向けさせてくれます。私たちの中にある振動はこの音を周りへ解き放ち、私たちの中には振動や音の感覚の記憶が残ります。音は私たちの中で物理的な形を持ち、それを私たちが体現することで、私たちを取り巻く環境のアーカイブを保存できます。 アヨロ川の流れを捉えた録音が私たちの身体を通じてガラスのオブジェの中を循環し、私たちが時間的な文脈の中で観音寺を体験することで、かつて活きていた風景の記憶の空間を開いてくれます。
The Chanting of Deaf Water draws a line under the deafness of the Ayoro River, which, according to its history, of almost 80 years ago has become a road in the Kojohama area, having changed its shape, leaving only a trace of memory of the water flow that once surrounded us. In the project, the artist works with sound in the context of landscape memory, where she uses the metaphor of deafness to sensorialise sound through its physical and visual qualities. At the same time, the artist invites us to explore the technique of throat singing, which allows us to pay attention to the internal sensors of our own body, where sound is generated through our anatomical structures. Such vibrations within us are able to broadcast this sound into the environment while retaining the memory of the vibration and sensation of the sound within. The sound takes physical form within us and we can embody it to preserve the archives of our environment. Sound recordings of the Ayoro River flow circulate within the glass objects through our bodies, and our experience of Kannonji Temple in its temporal context opens up spaces of memory of a landscape that was once alive.

東京を拠点に活動する学際的なアーティスト／研究者。風景の記憶を探求するというテーマの下、彼女のプロジェクトにはフィールドワーク、音、パフォーマンス、アートブック、グラフィックス、そしてその他の様々な形態が含まれる。自らの芸術的な実践において、ナタリーは、歴史的な風景を忘れない方法を意識し模索するための物質的なツールとして音を扱っている。彼女の実践における音は可視化され、見えない者が聞こえ、聞こえない者が見えるようなビジュアルアートとサウンドアートの境界線を見つけだすのに役立っている。
Interdisciplinary artist and researcher based in Tokyo. With the theme of exploring the memory of landscapes, her projects include fieldwork, sound, performance, art books, graphics, and a variety of other forms. In her artistic practice, Natalie deals with sound as a material tool for awareness and exploration of the way of remembering historical landscapes. The sound in her practice takes on a visual form and helps to find the very borderline between visual and sound art, the border where the one who can't see - can hear, and the one who can't hear - can see.
