再発見！寛永寺 風鈴プロジェクト

まもなく創建400年を迎える寛永寺は、徳川幕府の守護とともに庶民の憩いの場を目指して建てられた。戊辰戦争を経て、その敷地の大半は上野公園へと姿を変えたが、今もなお多くの史跡がのこる。この企画は、願いが集まる憩いの場としての寛永寺の魅力を、人々に再発見してもらうことを目指した。 企画内容は、陶器製の風鈴を100個ろくろで作り、それを展示。寛永寺の史跡を巡った一般の参加者の方々に願い事やイラスト等を書いた短冊を制作し、風鈴に結んでいただくプロジェクトを実施した。展示の始めは風鈴に風受けがないため、音は鳴らない。参加者が短冊を結ぶことによって、音が生まれる。 自身の未来を願うものや、他者の幸せや健康を願うもの、社会の平和を願うものなど、100個の短冊に100人の願いが集まった。 寛永寺での100個の風鈴の音色と景観が、上野へ、そしてもっと遠くへと思いを届けることを私は願う。
Kan’ei-ji, approaching its fourth centenary, was built to safeguard the Tokugawa shogunate and provide a place of public recreation. After the Boshin War, most of the temple precincts became Ueno Park, and many vestiges of the temple remain. The purpose of this art project is to prompt people to rediscover the wonder of Kan’ei-ji as a recreational space for the public. In this project, I displayed a hundred ceramic wind chimes, which I had potted on a pottery wheel. Members of the public visiting the historic site of Kan’ei-ji were invited to write or illustrate their wishes on a piece of paper and tie the paper onto a wind chime. Initially, the chimes remained silent, as they did not move in the wind. Once visitors’ prayers were tied to the chimes, the chiming began. The hundred chimes bore the wishes of a hundred people—people’s future aspirations, people’s hope for a happy and healthy life, and people’s hope for peace. I hope that the chiming and visual spectacle of the hundred wind chimes in Kan’ei-ji reached hearts across Ueno and far beyond too.

Born in Tokyo. She is studying aesthetics and art history at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of Arts. As well as studying art history, she produces ceramic works. She engages in participatory art projects focused on urban environments and communities. Her work was exhibited at the 16th Geidai Art Plaza. Her Kan’ei-ji project was featured in Tokyo Shimbun (“Rediscover Kan’ei-ji: Wind Chime Project,” December 14, 2022, morning edition).
