《丸い地球の模様替え》は、不自然な形をした建具や畳などで構成された作品である。鑑賞者はハンドルを回し、宙に浮くこたつを回転させたり、三輪車に乗って荷物を牽引したり、キャスターのついた建具を動かすことができる。室内の家具の配置を移動することを「模様替え」と言うが、本作では鑑賞者の手によって立体作品が動きまわり、空間を構成する要素が常に変化し続けるのである。和室を覆すことをテーマとして制作を行い、敷居と鴨居に収めない建具、重力を無視した宙に浮くこたつ、角の無い丸い畳、変形した襖…などを展開した。本作は、和室の伝統的なイメージを打破することを目的とし、建具や畳の自由な変形による新しい空間を模索している段階であるまた展示空間に居合わせた、鑑賞者同士のコミュニケーションの可能性を生み出す作品でもある。
Rearranging the Round Earth consists of oddly shaped furniture and tatami mats. You can turn the handle to rotate the floating kotatsu (a low blanketed table), ride the tricycle to pull the luggage, or move the rollers carrying the furniture. The Japanese title features the phrase moyō-gae, which usually means rearranging the furniture in your home. In this piece, though, it refers to how viewers will keep physically moving around the three-dimensional objects, such that the elements making up the space keep changing. Consistent with the theme of overturning the traditional Japanese room, or washitsu, I developed furniture that does not fit into the lower door sill or head jamb; a floating kotatsu that defies gravity; round, corner-less tatami mats; and deformed sliding doors. The purpose of this piece is to shatter the traditional image of the washitsu. By featuring freely deformed furniture and tatami mats, the piece prompts an exploration of new ideas for interior space. It also creates an opportunity for communication between viewers.

ASANO HIKARI
1996年生まれ。美術作家。 日本では必要不可欠ではなくなってしまった和室の構造や歴史に着目し、動きや錯覚を取り入れた立体作品を制作している。 2019年 東京藝術大学 先端芸術表現科卒業後、2023年 同大学大学院グローバル・アート・プラクティス専攻を修了。
Born in 1996. She is a fine artist. Focusing on the structure and history of the washitsu, something no longer considered indispensable in Japan, she creates three-dimensional pieces that move and incorporate optical illusion. In 2019, she completed a program in intermedia art at the Tokyo University of Art. In 2023, she completed a program in global art practices at the university’s Graduate School of Fine Arts.
