Chris Marker《La Jetée》(1962) から着想し制作された、静止画のモンタージュによる映像。目の前で轢死した野良猫の記憶に関するテキストと、デュシャンの墓碑に刻まれた「死ぬのはいつも他人」を模した文言から始まり、その後自身の死生観が字幕のモノローグで語られてゆく。映像内における時間軸は、写真を撮影する(流れる現実の時間に切り込みを入れ静止させる)行為に基づいて度々立ち戻り、「ありえたかもしれない」別の分岐へと進行し直す。
A video consisting of a montage of still images, created from an idea inspired by Chris Marker's La Jetée (1962). The work begins with text related to a memory of a stray cat run over and killed in front of the artist, and words imitating the engraving, "It's always the others who die" on Duchamp's gravestone; the artist then relates their own view of life and death in a subtitled monologue. The time axis in the video often goes back, based on the act of taking photographs (adding cuts into, and pausing real time, as it flows), and moves forward again to an alternate path that "might have happened."
桒原 幹治
KUWAHARA KANJI
1998年生まれ、宮崎県出身。幼少より打楽器奏者として活動し、大学在籍時より作家活動を始める。時間論や身体論からリズムの概念を探求し、演奏行為をもとにした映像やパフォーマンスを制作する。2021年東京藝術大学音楽学部音楽環境創造科卒業。2023年同大大学院映像研究科修士課程メディア映像専攻修了。アヴァンポップ・バンド「カブトムシ」や即興打楽器集団「LA SEÑAS」のメンバー。
Born in Miyazaki in 1998. Active as a percussionist from a young age, and began writing while at university. Investigates the concept of rhythm from theories of time and the body, and creates videos and performances based on performance acts. Graduated from Musical Creativity and the Environment, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts, in 2021. Completed the Master's program, New Media, Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts, in 2023. Member of the avant-pop band, Kabutomushi, and the impromptu percussion group, La Señas.
